Maatraan work started on jULY 22ND of 2012 The first session of shooting was held at a border region of Pakistan. The movie is almost said to have been shot aoutside India than the parts shot in India. Balkan Region has served as the main shooting spot for the movie. The crew has also been to Macedonia and Russia. The Indian Contemporary gujarathi Babe Isha Shravani has performed for an Item song in The Movie. The Item Song is " Theeda Theenda". The movie also includes Computer graphics work which is carried out at Balumahendra studios. There are news that the shoot was to be held at United States and was cancelled in the Later stages.

Official Teaser trailer for the movie was released on July 12th 2012 at Chennai. The trailer showed that Surya's role will of dual nature and of conjoined twins. Kajal Agarwal is the female lead role player in the movie.
